If you had complete freedom in choosing the company where you will continue your career, which employer would you choose? And by which criteria would you be guided?

According to the First-choice Employer survey, which involved more than 25,000 respondents in 2023, the most desirable employers in Croatia in the Trade sector are dm-drogerie markt, Lidl Hrvatska, Müller trgovina Zagreb, Kaufland Hrvatska, and Konzum plus.

Good Treatment by the Boss is Crucial

To uncover the little secrets that make a difference among employers, we asked survey participants to select up to three factors that, in their opinion, the most desirable employer must have to earn a spot on the list of the most desirable.

The majority of respondents (51%) highlight good treatment of employees by superiors, as the key factor that attracts them to the most desirable employers in the Trade sector. In second place are good interpersonal relationships and a positive work atmosphere (44%), followed by job security (44%). Other notable factors include the company's good reputation, opportunities for career advancement, and work-life balance..

To Change Employers or Not?

Slightly more than half (51%) of respondents who consider their top-choice employer to be in the Trade sector often think about changing employers. One-third of employed respondents (35%) sometimes think about changing employers, while only 13% never consider quitting.

When it comes to the most important benefits expected from first-choice employers, respondents most frequently mention bonuses for outstanding achievements, travel expense reimbursement, flexible working hours, and opportunities for training.

Bonuses for recommendations and covered costs of cultural or sports activities are considered the least important benefits, according to the survey participants.

O istraživanju:

The Employer of Choice survey was conducted by Alma Career Croatia through the MojPosao portal (www.moj-posao.net) with a sample of over 25,000 respondents during 2023. This survey has been conducted annually for the nineteenth consecutive year.

It is important to note that the survey is based solely on the respondents' perceptions of the companies and their free choice (the company names were NOT pre-provided in the survey). The goal of the survey was to find out which employers on the Croatian labor market are the most attractive to the general public and to highlight those that have made the most progress.

Respondents were asked to name (in order) their top three employers of choice (i.e., their 'first', 'second', and 'third' choice employers). The scoring was such that 'first' choice employers received 3 points, 'second' choice employers received 2 points, and 'third' choice employers received 1 point, based on which the total ranking of employers was calculated.
